Jerry Malzahn

Landscape artist Jerry Malzahn, was born in Stuttgard, Arkansas on September 30, 1946. He moved to Texas as a young adult and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of North Texas . He founded the Malzahn Landscape Company and currently serves as the company's president.

In 1994, Malzahn began to devote himself to landscape painting at the age of 48. He received enthusiastic and immediate response by collecting the first place prize for landscape paintings, landscape paintings with architecture, and the third place prize for landscape painting with figures at the 1996 Texas State Fair. In 1996 he has shown successfully at the Wild Gallery in 1996, and in 2003 at David Dike Fine Art, Dallas , Texas . Malzahn was selected for membership into the prestigious Salmagundi Club of New York in 2003. His landscapes are displayed in numerous important private, corporate and public collections in Dallas and Ft. Worth , Texas , New York , New York and Annapolis, Maryland at the U.S. Naval Academy Museum.

Malzahn's brilliant landscapes pay homage to a wide range of nineteenth century landscape masters. His heroic, western landscapes echo the grand panoramas of Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt in their scope and strongly articulated perspectives. His meadow scenes carry the delicate and poetic subtlety of the French Barbizon School, particularly the dream-like atmosphere of Corot, Daubigny and Harpignies. While noticing the influence of these artists, one ultimately sees the marks of a highly talented individual hand, sensitive to the nuances of how light and dark effect the mood of nature, yet impassioned to capture the great breadth of America's exalted scenery.

An enthusiastic collector as well, the Malzahn family collection was exhibited in September 2005, by the City of Richardson . "An Artist's Collection" was presented in the Eiseman Center at the Forrest & Virginia Green Gallery in Richardson, Texas . An estimated 10,000 viewed the exhibit of the Malzahn family collection that included Hudson River and French Barbizon paintings. Also on exhibition were Malzahn's personal works that were inspired by his collection. The national publication American Art Review, reviewed the exhibit in the August 2005 issue. Malzahn also exhibited his work at the Verizon Headquarters in Irving, Texas in January of 2006.

Jerry Malzahn lives with his wife, Lyla Thompson Malzahn, in Coppell , Texas . They have a daughter, Franchesca, who serves in the United States Air Force.
