Francois Lafon was noted primarily for masterworks of figure and portraiture.
He was the son of Emile Jacques Lafon a very noted French historical painter (1817-1886) of the Post Napoleonic/Neo-Classic Period.
Having been in the environment of the classic artists working thru the Ecole de Beaux-Arts and especially his artist father's circle, one can see the very disciplined effect on the quality draftsmanship and composition of his paintings.
The opportunity to study in the atelier of the master artist Cabanel allowed him to refine his signature of style to the efflorescence level achieved by a select few.
He made his debut in the Salon of 1885. He became a member of the “Societe de la Nationale des Beaux-Arts after 1890 and placed in the group of the “Chevalier de la Legion d'honneur”.
