Born in Atlanta , Georgia , Steve Childs is best known for his figurative paintings of dancers and portraits. He has painted the human form and figure for over thirty years. He studied at the California College of Arts and Crafts and went on to receive a Bachelor of Visual Arts degree in illustration from Georgia State University.

Steve continued his studies graduating from Utah State University with a Master of Fine Arts degree. He has been featured in International Artist, The Portrait Signature, Dance Magazine, and featured three times in American Artist. He has been interviewed by numerous other publications including USA Today, Art of the West and The Artist's Magazine.

His most recent award was from the Salon International Exhibition. He has been a juror for many competitions including the International Portrait Competition. Along with painting, Childs is currently directing the documentary film And We Will Dance about the life of a handful of dance students at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts.
