Gilbert made his debut as a French master painting everyday genre studies of scenes along the boulevards of Paris, as well as market scenes on the crossroad districts (Marche`/ Markets of Francais).

His inspiration of capturing the everyday activity of the French culture (to buy fresh just for the day) is still present; although giving way to the International mass marketing concepts.

The scenes the artist created from his astute observations. They are most realistic particularly in very picturesque detail of narrative and expression.
